Dansearena nord, in collaboration with The Arctic Theater invites dance practitioners to a two and a half day workshop in dance dramaturgy facilitated by German dance-dramaturge Thomas Schaupp. There is a maximum of 20 spaces and we will practice a first come first served on reservation of spaces.

In this intensive theory-practical workshop we are going to explore the relevance of dramaturgy for dance-related artistic processes: One focus will be to introduce different dramaturgical methods in looking at dance works and their conceptualisation and contextualisation. But we will also relate to relevant questions such as how to contextualize oneself as an artist/choreographer/dancer in the contemporary cultural environment and the “market”? How to be precise in articulating artistic intensions, for example to curators, to the audience, to the ones collaborating with you and so on.

The workshop starts Thursday September 7th , seeing the premiere of Frosne Sanger by Ina Christel Johannessen at The Arctic Theater.

Dates: 7th – 9th of September 2017

Price: NOK 950,- includes lunch both days and ticket to Frosne Sanger

Dramaturgy is a relatively new profession in the dance-field, especially in modern and contemporary dance and physically based performance practices. As such, it could be defined as the evolution of ideas thru time. And through the role of an "outside eye", in questioning, contextualizing and observing - based on a certain theoretical knowledge - the dramaturge is assisting the choreographers in building up the (final) journey of a piece

Thomas Schaupp, Berlin, studied theatre- and dance-theory at Freie Universität Berlin. As a dance-dramaturge he is collaborating with several choreographers, currently with Kat Válastur, Anne-Mareike Hess, Stian Danielsen as well as for the festival "Tanztage Berlin". As a lecturer and critic he has been invited to festivals and conferences across Europe and Canada. In the season 2014/15 he was resident critic at ada-studio Berlin. Thomas is a guest-teacher at the Inter-University Centre for Dance in Berlin and facilitates workshops on dance-dramaturgy and the dramaturgical in choreographic centres across Europe. In 2017, he is co-curating the conference "Lab:Dance – (Dance)Dramaturgy as a collaborative practive", in collaboration with the festival "CPH Stage" in Copenhagen.
